Broughton Village Hall Broughton Playing Fields and Village Hall Association

Village Show 2017

The 9th Annual Broughton Village Show and Fun Day was spared some of the rain this year, and the committee’s decision to opt for the ‘fine weather’ plan just meant us dodging the showers occasionally. The Human Punch & Judy show hurried to an end as another bank of black clouds rolled over Broughton, and gave everyone an excuse to seek shelter and refreshment in the main hall, the beer tent, or the September. A great display of flowers, fruit, vegetables, cakes, preserves, photographs and handicrafts filled the show tent. There were probably more people looking round the exhibits than in previous years too, possibly because it was a bit too wet outside to do anything else!

The Welland Valley Stompers Jazz band, the Queen’s opening speech, and the Human Punch and Judy, along with raffle, tombola and more challenging activities. Bric-a-brac filled the Meachem room, and cream teas were available from the kitchen server.  The position of the real-ale bar between the show tent and the main hall also meant that people were able to get a drink each time they moved between the two! We had to lose a few of the usual stalls and activities because of the wet weather, but the auction of prizes instead helped raise a little more money for the upkeep and development of the village hall.

Thanks to everyone for turning out, and to the organisers and volunteers who helped make it all happen.
