The 9th Annual Broughton Village Show and Fun Day was spared some of the rain this year, and the committee’s decision to opt for the ‘fine weather’ plan just meant us dodging the showers occasionally. The Human Punch & Judy show hurried to an end as another bank of black clouds rolled over Broughton, and gave everyone an excuse to seek shelter and refreshment in the main hall, the beer tent, or to enjoy the display of flowers, fruit, vegetables, cakes, preserves, photographs and handicrafts that filled the show tent.
The wet weather meant there was only a small ‘Onesie’ Parade from the Red Lion, consisting of a Cow and a Batman (Robin had to drive off to take stall prizes to the village hall!). However, The Welland Valley Stompers Jazz band played us into the opening of the show, and throughout the afternoon. The various competitions and stalls gave everyone plenty of things to do around the main arena of the field, while the Dog Show kept our furry friends occupied on the outside. The fact that the dogs were right next to the Welly Wanging could actually offer another competition for next year -
A number of Vintage Vehicles and Machines turned up for the mechanical part of the afternoon’s display, including the military component from our friends Tim and Martin, Pat’s well-
Thanks to everyone for turning out, and to the organisers and volunteers who helped make it all happen.
