Local Village Hall in Broughton
Our history
The Association was formed as a Registered Charity in August 1978 when a group of local villagers raised funds to help with the building of the Village Hall. In March 1980 Kettering Borough Council granted a 99-year lease over the village hall for the benefit of the local community.
Successive management committees have worked hard to improve and develop the facilities at the Village Hall and since 2011 an immense effort has been put into revitalising the Village Hall, including refurbishing, and redecorating all the rooms, improving security and storage facilities and enhancing the recreational facilities.
Recent Developments at the Village Hall
Planning permission for developing the building was agreed by Kettering Borough Council in January 2015 and revised in 2017. The phased development included an outdoor play area that was completed in August 2015. The new toilets off the main hall were finished in 2016, both projects were completed in partnership with Broughton Under 5s and with support from local trusts.
More development took place in February 2019 as 3 external storages units were completed. In August 2019 the first phase of improving and extending the changing facilities was completed and during this summer we saw a Petanque court created by a community project.
In May 2020 the Skate Ramp project was finally completed, which is a great addition for youngsters in the village. This was largely funded by the Section 106 (S106) funds arising from the Cransley Green development.
Broughton get a new outdoor gym
The residents of Broughton and Little Cransley have been making good use of the recently installed outdoor gym equipment at the village hall. The project was a response to the post-Covid focus on health and wellbeing of residents and providing free access to exercise for villagers of all ages.
The new equipment is thanks to a collaboration between Broughton Parish Council, North Northamptonshire Council, and the Village Hall Management Committee, with all three helping to fund the project.
Clive Gresham, Chair of the Village Hall said, “Many more people started using the playing fields for exercise and wellbeing during the pandemic and we were keen to see that continue – the gym is a perfect addition and allows young and old to get out in the fresh air and exercise at their own pace”.
Pat Scouse, Chair of the Parish Council said “We were delighted to support this project. Looking after our residents is very important to us and this was a great way to contribute to the health and wellbeing of the community”
Future plans
We have successfully completed a variety of projects over the recent years with total costs exceeding £110,000. We could not have done this without the support of our local community, local trusts and charities and Kettering Borough Council. We are most grateful to everyone.
We have recently received planning permission to extend the Village Hall.
Continued support and fundraising from within the village community will be necessary to make sure we can turn these plans into reality.
